Castelo de Vide is a Portuguese village in the district of Portalegre, Alentejo region and sub-region of Alentejo. It is the seat of a municipality with 264.83 km ² and 3,407 inhabitants(2011), [2] divided into four parishes. The municipality is bordered by Spain to the northeast, east by the Municipality of Marvão on the south by the city of Portalegre, the southwest by the municipality of Crato and west and northwest by the municipality of Nisa.The romantic character of the village of Castelo de Vide, associated with its gardens, plenty of vegetation, mild climate and proximity of the Serra de São Mamede, became known as the "Sintra of Alentejo" (this term is attributed to King D. Pedro V .)

There are several monuments and places of interest of the village, especially the top of the Castle and the beautiful scenery, but also the "Jewish Quarter", one of the more important and best preserved of the Jewish presence in Portugal, dating to the thirteenth century,preserving here also one of the largest estates of civil architecture from the Gothic period. Jewry still preserving the Synagogue, ogival windows and doors of houses and the doors of the shop or trade, some decorated with symbols professional.

In the majestic Square D. Peter V is the Church of St. John the Baptist Hospital, located in the birthplace of the statesman Mouzinho da Silveira, the Mother Church and the Town Hall and it is understood the charm of the village, painted white and embellished with various manors and emblazoned breathing history.

Next, and not to be missed is Mount where lies the Chapel of Our Lady of Penha and where you have a different view of the village.

Castelo de Vide is an Alentejo village of well-maintained traditionsand proud of their festivals, very experienced and highly cherishedby the local population, as at Easter and Carnival.

The Gastronomy of the county is also rich and traditional Alentejo, with emphasis on dishes like Sarapatel (dish prepared with lamb or goat entrails), the lamb stew or mashed with spare ribs as well as various liqueurs produced in the region.
